Sexuality Liberators and Movers Virtual Symposium

Sexuality Liberators and Movers (SLAM) Virtual Symposium

The Colorado Sexual Health Initiative (CoSHI) Team is excited to share an upcoming conference opportunity for adults who work with and care for youth.

The Sexuality Liberators And Movers virtual symposium is for parents, teachers, sexuality educators and direct service adults who work with and care for young people. S.L.A.M. 4 Youth conference will be held virtually on Thursday, January 27 and Friday, January 28.

S.L.A.M.'s focus is shifting and moving sex education forward by centering the contributions, experiences, and expertise of educators of color, while challenging isms and institutions that keep sex education white-washed, fear-based and ineffective.

S.L.A.M. believes that young people (children, students and siblings) deserve sex education that centers and affirms them. With this goal in mind, conference organizer, Stephanie Zapata, has brought together some of the country’s top youth-centered BIPOC Sexperts.

The CoSHI team has participated in this virtual conference in the past, and the conference has always been a wonderful learning experience! We hope that others will be interested in attending and look forward to seeing some other Coloradans in attendance this year!

Dates: Thursday, January 27th and Friday, January 28th

Time: 8:00 AM-4:30 PM each day

Location: Virtual via Zoom platform

Register: https://www.eventcreate.com/e/slam4youth

The CoSHI team is offering a limited number of scholarships for folx interested in attending the virtual conference. Suicide Prevention Mini-Grants for Coroners

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's (CDPHE) Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) and Child Fatality Prevention System (CFPS) are pleased to announce the availability of funding specifically for Colorado Coroners and Medical Examiners to help us better understand and prevent suicide deaths. Based on feedback received over the past year, we’ve updated the Suicide Investigation Form to improve flow and formatting to make it a more usable tool to gather information to help inform prevention efforts.

The goals of this new mini grant funding include 1) increasing utilization of the Suicide Death Investigation Form, 2) bringing staff from coroner agencies and medical examiner offices into local or regional suicide prevention coalitions and working groups, 3) supporting suicide loss survivors, and 4) improving the Suicide Death Investigation Form.

Urban coroner agencies and medical examiners offices can apply for up to $5,000.00 to be used towards costs incurred in the completion of the activities outlined in the application below.

Rural coroner agencies and medical examiners offices can apply for up to $2,500.00 to be used towards costs incurred in the completion of the activities outlined in the application below.

Awards will be made on a first come, first served basis until funding runs out. We anticipate continuing this project in fiscal year 2023 as well.
