April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Governor Polis proclaims April Child Abuse Prevention Month

Child Abuse Prevention Month kick-off Event

As part of the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Public Awareness Campaign, the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), along with hundreds of community partners and county agencies, are marking the start of National Child Abuse Prevention Month (April) with an event at the Colorado State Capitol on Tuesday, April 3rd at 9:00 am.
The event will feature speakers, including Colorado Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne, addressing the importance of individuals and communities working together to strengthen families, which is one of the most effective ways to prevent child abuse from occurring.
Following remarks from the speakers, event attendees (who will be wearing blue for Child Abuse Prevention Month) will officially launch a month-long effort to inspire Coloradans to plant pinwheel gardens all over the state.

Need help engaging your community?

We are experts in awareness!

Messages matter. Evidence-based communications improves the well-being of children and strengthens Colorado families.

Research shows that while horrific stories of child abuse and neglect may gain short-term media attention, this approach is not successful in building lasting dedication for effective prevention efforts.

To promote lasting change, the pinwheel messages must focus on proposing effective solutions and engaging people in positive, preventative action they can take on their own.

It's never too late to make a difference!
